I love to make this bread as a side dish for any Italian meal I make...spaghetti, lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo...you name it!
This is also great as a pizza crust. Use it as your crust to the 'Italian Herb and Tomato Pizza' recipe on this site.
Ingredients
2 3/4 cups All-purpose flour
1 teaspoons Salt
1 teaspoons White sugar
1 tablespoons Active dry yeast
1 teaspoons Garlic powder
1 teaspoons Dried oregano
1 teaspoons Dried thyme
1/2 teaspoons Dried basil
1/8 teaspoons Ground black pepper
3 tablespoons Olive oil
1 cups Water
1/4 cups Parmesan cheese, grated
1 cups Mozzarella cheese, grated
Instructions:
In a large bowl, stir together flour, salt, sugar, yeast, garlic powder, oregano, thyme, basil and black pepper. Mix by hand, 1 TBSP olive oil and 1 cup water into dry ingredients until dough has pulled together.
Lightly flour counter top. Turn the dough onto floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for 20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Punch dough down, place on greased baking sheet. Pat into a 1/2 inch thick rectangle. Brust the top with olive oil. Sprinkle with Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses.
Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Slice and serve warm.
